As someone deeply experienced with Power Automate, I’ve built workflows that handle business-critical processes, streamline internal operations, and integrate seamlessly across Microsoft’s ecosystem. For years, Power Automate has been my go-to tool for one simple reason: it just works especially if your organization runs on Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams, and Dynamics.

But like any tool, Power Automate comes with limitations.
And that’s when I started exploring n8n, an open-source alternative that approaches automation from a fundamentally different angle.

We recently completed a data migration for one of our clients from Dynamics CRM to SharePoint, and what a journey it was! Picture this: data flying across systems like moving boxes on a truck, some landing perfectly, others teetering on the edge of disaster. It was a rollercoaster of planning, testing, and problem-solving, but we made it to the finish line with valuable insights to share.

Microsoft Power Automate provides a powerful and seamless way to automate the creation of documents by integrating Microsoft Word with structured data sources like SharePoint and Dataverse. This automation eliminates the need for manual data entry, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and time efficiency—key factors in optimizing business workflows.

Sometimes in Power Automate, you may encounter scenarios where you need to use the "Parse JSON" action to process JSON data. A critical aspect of using Power Automate effectively is ensuring that your data is correctly parsed and processed. This is where JSON schemas come into play. However, handling null values in JSON can be tricky and, if not done correctly, can lead to errors in your workflows. In this blog, we will explore how to handle null values in JSON schema for Power Automate.

Common Issues with JSON Schemas

As Power Automate developers, in the hustle of creating dozens of flows for a specific project, it's tempting to take shortcuts when it comes to naming. After all, the real magic happens in crafting those flow steps, right?

However, this approach, while convenient in the short term, can lead to a maze of vaguely named flows. It's like leaving breadcrumbs trails hoping you'll find your way back when needed. But reality often kicks in — memory lapses, project handovers, or team transitions. Suddenly, what seemed like a shortcut becomes a potential roadblock.

Create a SharePoint list give it a name of your choice.  E.g. 

• Name (single-line text)
• Gender (Choice)
• Phone Number (number)
• Email Address (single-line text)
